Colombia is the most tropical and charming country in South America. A land of unbelievable multiplicity and attraction, with ever-changing natural features, a thought-provoking history, and diversity of people and cultures. At the same time, Colombia has been imprisoned in recurrent cycles of violence, where inequality, poverty, and weak institutional capacity reinforce armed conflict and vice-versa. In the past decade, the Colombian society has made tireless efforts to reduce Colombia’s levels of violence and poverty and increase state presence. After decades of armed conflict, a peace process was recently concluded in Colombia in 2016, serving as both a challenge and opportunity for the future of territorial peace, justice, and democracy in the country.
